Today is World Cancer Day, and the theme this year is prevention.
The International Union Against Cancer says cancer can be prevented. They're encouraging people to make healthy lifestyle choices to help prevent the disease. The World Health Organization, meanwhile, is touting the benefits of exercise in cancer prevention. They're encouraging people to get active in the fight against the disease, saying breaking a sweat can prevent many forms of cancer.
A new report shows that if people ate healthier food, drank less alcohol and exercised more, many common cancers could be prevented. The report is by the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund. They say simple lifestyle changes could result in roughly 40-percent of breast cancers being eliminated in Britain and the United States along with tens of thousands of colon, stomach and prostate cancers.
Cancer is the number one cause of death around the planet and the numbers continue to rise.
